AdvaMed 2015: The MedTech Conference Announces Four Finalists for MedTech Innovator 2015 Competition

9.15.2015

advamed_2015_logo WASHINGTON, D.C. – AdvaMed 2015: The MedTech Conference, the leading gathering of medical technology professionals in North America, and the MedTech Innovator competition have announced Briteseed, MedAware, MobileODT and uBiome as the four finalist companies in the year-long competition which will conclude with more than $300,000 in awards and prizes.

MedTech Innovator is a venture competition and accelerator, designed to foster transformative innovation that benefits patients and delivers improved value to the health care system. A strategic partnership between RCT Ventures, the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), and industry leaders, MedTech Innovator identifies and accelerates early-stage MedTech companies, including medical device, diagnostic, and digital health.

“The MedTech Innovator finals at AdvaMed 2015 is the culmination of a year-long collaboration of the leading players in the MedTech Industry to foster innovations that improve value and address some of healthcare’s biggest challenges,” said Paul Grand, managing director, RCT Ventures and head of MedTech Innovator. “These four finalists will have the rare opportunity on October 7 to present their stories and compete for the vote of the largest audience of influential leaders in the medtech industry.”

The finalist companies have developed innovative medical technologies to help diagnose diseases, prevent errors and increase patient safety and overall health.

• Briteseed’s technology SafeSnips facilitates the real-time detection and imaging of hidden blood vessels before surgical cuts are made.
• MedAware leverages big data and sophisticated algorithms to provide patient-safety centered clinical decision support tools.
• MobileODT creates advanced optical technology components that turn the smartphone into a mobile, affordable, and easy-to-use point-of-care tool to help detect cancer and capture a range of biomedical images.
• uBiome is using microbial genomics and big data to understand the human microbiome and empower participants to explore and manage their microbiomes to improve their health.

Admission to MedTech Innovator 2015 began with the selection of 10 transformative technology themes identified in a MedTech Innovator/AdvaMed survey of 26 leading MedTech companies. These industry-selected themes guided the selection of 20 semi-finalist companies in June from a pool of nearly 300 applicants. The semi-finalists are currently participating in the MedTech Innovator virtual accelerator, a program designed to deliver strategic content and mentorship. The 2015 accelerator program will conclude with presentations by all 20 semi-finalists at AdvaMed 2015 in the Innovation Showcase on October 6, including the 4 finalists competing in the MedTech Innovator Finals.

The final round of the MedTech Innovator competition will be held during a plenary session at AdvaMed 2015 on Wednesday, October 7 at 7:00 a.m. The finalists will compete for the audience’s vote and more than $300,000 in awards and prizes, which is supported by BD, RCT Ventures and the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies.
